Description: Colonel Samuel Smith Park is a great birding location at any time of year. On this outing, we will expect to see a variety of waterfowl, both divers and dabblers. The water on the east side often attracts large flocks of Greater Scaup, Buffleheads, Common Goldeneyes and Long-tailed Ducks. The landfill area of the park is rich in natural winter food sources, attracting a variety of passerines, including a flock of overwintering American Robins.

Facilities: Public washrooms are available at the Powerhouse

Accessibility: The route will be mostly on established gravel and paved paths, but snow or ice may make walking a bit challenging, depending on the weather. The route can be adjusted to avoid the worst areas. 

What to bring: Dress warmly! It's always cooler by the lake! Bring binoculars and/or camera, water, snack if desired, boots in case of recent wet weather.

Where and when to meet: Meet at 10 am at the south parking lot. Parking is free on weekends.

How to get there: 

TTC: From Kipling subway station, take the 44 Kipling South into the park – the south parking lot is a short walk from the bus loop.

Driving and parking: Parking lot is at the south end of Col Sam Smith Drive (basically Kipling Ave south of Lake Shore Blvd.)
